About Me

Here find everything you have ever wanted to know (or didn't know) about me. Or, as I like to call it, my life as an anthropomorphized tablet of Xanax.

“I don't want any yes-men around me. I want everybody to tell me the truth even if it costs them their jobs.”
— Samuel Goldwyn

Who Is This Guy?

My name is Jaron Brass. I live in Alexandria, Virginia, just across the river from our nation's capital, Washington, DC. I work for AKQA, a leading global interactive advertising and marketing agency. AKQA specializes in internet and digital advertising, serving numerous clients including Coca-Cola, Fiat, McDonald's, Microsoft, Nike, Visa, Sky and others. AKQA is based in San Francisco and has offices in Washington, DC, New York, London, Amsterdam, and Shanghai.

In my spare time I consult in the areas of web design, photography, video, music, and technology. Oh, and I also fly little airplanes. With respect to technology, my strengths are in network design, security, management, administration and training. While proficient on most major platforms, including UNIX, Windows and Mac OS X, the Mac is the platform I know best. I hold a number of industry-recognized certifications from Apple Computer, VMware, and other major technology vendors.

About This Site

My personal web page went online in late 1991, and despite its rather spartan content, was one of the first personal web pages on the Internet. Initially hosted by AOL and authored in NaviPress, I shared photos and other tidbits of my life with a very small audience. The concept of a weblog hadn't yet been invented, though I did have something similar to a journal there. Sadly, it didn't receive the TLC it deserved and went offline in 1997, the victim of my goal to develop a web presence for my high school.

In late 2001, I resurrected my site and the domain name I bought years before. Today, my site is personally designed and developed by me, fueled by blood, sweat, tears and a caffeinated beverage from time to time. It is powered by WordPress, and uses its theme system to manage the content and presentation. Photos are fetched from Flickr. Hosting is provided by the great folks at (mt) Media Temple.

All XHTML and CSS should validate to versions 1.1 and 2.1, respectively. However, due to the quirks of using any CMS tool with occasional embedded content, there may be times when they don't. And I'm certainly fine with that.

If you'd like to contact me, feel free to drop me a line via e-mail. I'll try to respond as quickly as possible. I promise!
