AppleCare for Apple Displays Now Available
If you’ve ever purchased an Apple display seperately from your Mac, or bought a second display in addition to the primary for your Mac, you’re now in luck. Apple has recently started offering an AppleCare Protection Plan for Apple Displays. Available for $99, the plan extends the display’s warranty and phone support to three years.
All I can say is finally… I’ve purchased dual displays with my Macs for the past I-can’t-count-how-many years. After my recent 30″ Cinema HD Display purchases, it seemed somewhat ridiculous that I had to choose which display to protect, and could only protect one. With $6,000 worth of pixels on my desk, and Apple pushing the ‘dual desktop’ hype in much of their pro marketing, you’d think coverage like this would already exist. After all, Apple is luring pros to buy them — and raking in a fortune once they do. However, that’s not quite the case. Up until now, you were S.O.L. if your second, unprotected display malfunctioned outside the initial warranty period.
Apple continues to offer new Mac mini, Power Mac G5, MacBook Pro, and PowerBook customers the chance to add coverage for an Apple display free of charge if the display is purchased alongside one of those systems and the corresponding AppleCare plan.
Current Apple display owners can take advantage of AppleCare for Apple Displays provided their display is still covered by the original one-year warranty.
