PC LOAD LETTER!? WTF?

You know you’ve firmly established yourself as the resident geek when your neighbor knocks on your door, and politely asks you to troubleshoot a printer problem he’s having while drinking some coffee and enjoying a chat. Or, perhaps more…
As it turns out the cryptic error message inflicting his LaserJet was nothing too serious. In fact, all it said was “PC LOAD LETTER” which, coincidentally enough, brings back memories of the movie Office Space I had watched a few days earlier. His printer, which has seen better days, is almost as old as I am. Scary.
After informing my Air Force fly boy that the problem could be resolved by refilling the paper, he coyly grinned, and I walked back home. During my stroll, several thoughts crossed my mind, including the fact that my friend can fly an F-22, arm and target precise laser and satellite-guided munitions, and do stunts that would make normal pilots wet themselves, yet, he can’t figure out a simple error. Bizarre, no?
BIzarre? Not even close. Quite normal if you ask me. Most of my pilot friends can barely use email, yet they are flying for the military and commercial airlines. Scary thought…but I guess I rather they have a 1 track mind on flying and everything aviation than to do a so so job as a pilot. Sometimes I think WE are the bizarre ones who can somehow manage to be pilots and uber geeks all at the same time.
